You’re Allowed To Put Some Of It Down

You’re allowed to put some of it down 🍂

You know when someone asks if you’re okay and “Yeah, I’m fine” comes out before you’ve even thought about it?

Meanwhile, your head has 27 tabs open, your shoulders are up by your ears and everyone needs something from you.

Sound familiar?

Sometimes, the heaviest things we carry are the things nobody else can see. Old hurt. Guilt. Expectations. That feeling that if we stop holding everything together, it might all fall apart.

Just because you can carry it doesn’t mean you have to keep carrying it alone.

As we move into November, I love the reminder that nature gives us: slowing down is part of life. Yet somehow, we expect ourselves to keep going at full speed.

Work. Children. Relationships. The endless list in our heads. Even self-care can become another thing we feel we’re failing at.

So let’s keep this simple.

You don’t need a whole new routine this month. Start with asking yourself:

“What do I need a little less of — and what do I need a little more of?”

Maybe it’s less saying yes when you’re already stretched. More time outside. Less scrolling before bed. More honest conversations about how you’re actually feeling.

And perhaps it’s noticing what happens in your body when life feels too much. A tight jaw, tense shoulders or a held breath can be a reminder to pause and check in with yourself.

You don’t have to force yourself to relax or dig into every painful memory. Have a stretch, feel your feet on the floor, look around you. Give yourself a moment.

As a counsellor, I often hear, “I should be over this by now.”

But there isn’t a deadline. Understanding why something hurt doesn’t always mean it stops hurting straight away. You’re allowed to take your time and have support along the way.

This November, give yourself some of the care you give everyone else.

If you’d like space to talk, explore what’s keeping you stuck or reconnect with yourself, I offer counselling online and in person in Bracknell, alongside a range of holistic wellbeing sessions.
